Hey Home Depot, I got your 'corporate espionage' right here!

Hey Home Depot, I got your 'corporate espionage' right here!

Andrew and I stopped by Home Depot yesterday so Andrew could get some supplies for his raised garden project. Being me, I brought my camera in teh store with me.

Shortly after taking this picture I was approached by a sales associate who asked me if I just took a picture. I told her that, indeed, I had. She then told me that I was not allowed to take pictures.

I smiled and asked her if she was asking me to leave the store, because if not, I had every right to take pictures. She told me that she was not telling me to leave the store - she was telling me to stop taking pictures. I told her that, while privately owned, Home Depot is a public space, and being so, I'm allowed to take pictures. She can't tell me to stop taking pictures, but she can tell me to leave.

"So for clarity's sake, are you telling me to leave the store?"

"No."

"OK, well have a nice day."

I walked away and joined Andrew (who had slipt away moments after I was confronted) in another aisle.

Not even a minute later I heard some one approach us from behind and say, "gentlemen, can I help you?"

I turned and saw the woman I was just talking to and another person. I said that we were all set, but he continued.

"I'm going to have to ask you to not take any more pictures."

Again, Andrew walked away...

I told him that I didn't want to start a scene, and I don't care enough about taking pictures in his store, but he should know that they can't tell people to not take pictures.

"I'm just telling you what our lawyers say," was his response.

I told him that he should get better lawyers. I then asked him what their reasoning was.

"Corporate espionage."

"Really? Do you really think I'm here to commit corporate espionage? Do you think, if I was here to commit corporate espionage that I'd lug this big, obvious camera with me? And do you think that if I was here to commit corporate espionage that I'd stop, compose my image, meter the light, take the picture, and then check it on my LCD screen?"

"Umm... well..."

"I would think that anyone who was going to commit corporate espionage would be a bit sneakier. They might even use this crazy new technology that you folks should be aware of. Did you know that they are putting cameras in cell phones these days?"

I pulled my cellphone out of my pocket and said, "if I was going to commit corporate espionage, I'd make it look like I was talking on the phone, like this, and then take a picture, like this [click], or maybe I'd hold my phone down to make it look like I was reading a text message, and then take a picture, like this [click], or maybe I'd walk up to a price tag and quickly take a picture, like this [click]."

The two of them just stood staring at me.

"I'm not here to commit corporate espionage, I'm here with my friend while he looks for some stuff. I just like to take pictures. I was going to buy some charcoal, but now I don't think I will. Have a nice day."

I walked away before they could say anything else.

So here it is Lowes. Here's how Home Depot stacks their lumber.

SN 145 in Concord

SN 145 in Concord

These photos are some of my first train photos and were taken in Concord, CA on the now long abandoned SN line. This is near where I grew up. My guess is these photos date from around 1968.

Reportedly SN 145, a GE 44-ton built in 1946, went to dealer Chrome Crankshaft in 1971 and was resold to Northwest Oklahoma RR in 1974, resold to Westmac, Inc., and later Cargil. Reportedly after that it was sold to Shepard Grain Co., West Liberty, Ohio, in October 1998. Sold with the elevator to Champaign Landmark, Inc. in October 2003.

Reportedly in 2008 the oil in one of ex-SN 145's engines went low, and the engine seized. Owner Champaign Landmark, Inc. decided it was time to retire the locomotive in favor of a Trackmobile. The 44-tonner was sold to Western Star Rail Services of Newark, Ohio, who chose to scrap the locomotive for parts.

I am sorry for the poor quality. These would have been shot on a Sears 35 mm rangefinder camera and processed by the local drug store (after I saved my allowance.)

Cuisinart Concord 20-Piece Flatware Set

Cuisinart 20-piece Service for 4 Concord-Set Includes 4 of each of the following: dinner forks, salad forks, dinner spoons, teaspoon. Stainless steel is completely dishwasher-safe and easy to maintain. Follow these few simple hints to ensure that your fine stainless steel flatware lasts for many years: Wash flatware prior to using for the first time. Avoid soaking stainless flatware in water for a prolonged period of time or overnight Before placing in washer, rinse food from flatware When loading your dishwasher, make sure knife blades do not come into contact with other utensils. This will prevent blades from nicking or scratching other pieces. Use a mild non-chloride detergent. Never pour detergent directly onto flatware. In hard water areas, use a water-softening agent to avoid spotting or pitting. Always remove stainless flatware from the dishwasher shortly after the drying cycle is complete. This decreases the amount of time your flatware is exposed to a very moist and hot environment and allows it to dry in cool drier air. Should detergent film build up on your flatware, wash (either by hand or in a dishwasher) and hand-dry to remove film. If stubborn stains or rust should occur, use a non-abrasive stainless or metal polish paste or cream. Avoid grainy cleaners. Limit exposure to water that has a high mineral content, high chloride dishwashing detergent and foods that contain chloride (table salt, mustard, mayonnaise and eggs) as pitting or spotting may occur.
